We have been described as visionaries who strive to bring ransformation in communities and foster youth to become extraordinary leaders. The G.E.L team encompasses a group of dynamic and enthusiastic youth who still believe in human good. We dream to be known for being catalysts of change, seeking to champion causes that are important to national development, and desire to redefine the meaning of leadership.
Jasmine Ng Founder/Advisor/Head Despite her 14 years of experience in the banking sector, a lucrative position in a top notch consultancy and millions’ of ringgits worth of accounts sitting beneath her fingertips, Jasmine Ng gave it all up to pursue her love for youth development. If any word could be used to describe Jasmine, it would be bold. Previously an Associate Director in a partnership entity compromising of a team of experienced professionals gleaned from the Financial Services industry, Jasmine was provided the opportunity to train others and immediately fell in love with a much richer world; that of youth development. Moved by her passion for people, Jasmine began to design and deliver training for the youth specifically focusing on leadership training and application, which led to the creation of Growing Emerging Leaders.
John-Son Oei Founder/Head of E.P.I.C John-Son Oei is one of the directors of GEL (Growing Emerging Leaders), and head of E.P.I.C. , our community outreach arm. John-Son has made a commitment to social activism as a way of life and living. Not willing to conform to mediocrity he strives to go beyond the ordinary and join the ranks of extraordinary people to play his part and help make the world a better place. This passion led him to be featured by several talk shows such as Astro Awani and The Fairly Current show, and is even a recipient of the KLue Blue Chilli Award 2010 and most recently, one of the Men of the Year 2010 by Clive Magazine. Besides working fulltime with GEL, John-Son is also a Research Assistant in UCSI University in the Faculty of Economics and Policy Science. He has long thrown himself into social activism by spearheading G.E.L projects that serve as platforms for youth to develop leadership skills and give back to the community, and receive valuable knowledge that is difficult to obtain in school. Seemingly boundless in energy, when he is not working, John-Son still finds time to stay in shape, indulge in his hobby of reading, and keep up to date with his favourite football team - Arsenal.
Jayne Kennedy Founder/Creative Head Jayne may seem to be a person of few words, but her quiet exterior belies a razor-sharp wit that is a force to be reckoned with. With a love for the arts and all things creative, Jayne is Creative Head of GEL. From a young age, she had always been interested in the strength of an individual’s potential, and more importantly, the power of one. With this interest in heart, she explored the world of personal development and communication by working in the advertising industry and privately exploring training. With her strong background in creative strategy, she has single-handedly managed all G.E.L communication campaigns and projects, involving design, advertising and marketing. Apart from working full time at GEL, Jayne also runs her own design and communications agency and freelancers as a writer for several publications.
Charanpirabu Corporate Liaison and Funding Director Charanpirabu (though he prefers to be called ChaCha) is best known for his impeccable sense of humor. His effusive presence, coupled with his amusing repertoire of jokes, never fails to brighten up the room. This multi-talented youth is in charge of matters pertaining to G.E.L corporate relations, including obtaining funding, setting up corporate meetings, and securing sponsorships from corporations. From his extensive background in event management, to his current position as Student President of Private Universities and Colleges in Malaysia, ChaCha proves to be an invaluable, resourceful team player. Among his many achievements, one of Charan’s claims to fame is his rapping session with Point Blanc of Ipoh Mali fame.
